SUMMARY:Lonesome Dove Photo Exhibit by Humanities Texas
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Beginning April 28\, 2026\, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum will present Lonesome Dove\, an exhibition produced by the Wittliff Collections at the Alkek Library\, Texas State University\, presented in partnership with Humanities Texas\, the state affiliate for the National Endowment for the Humanities. \nLonesome Dove—Larry McMurtry’s epic novel of two aging Texas Rangers who drive a herd of stolen cattle 2\,500 miles from the Rio Grande to Montana to found the first ranch there—captured the public imagination and has never let it go. The Lonesome Dove miniseries\, which first aired on CBS in 1989\, lassoed an even wider audience. \nCapturing the sweeping visual imagery of the original miniseries\, the Lonesome Dove exhibition presents fifty-fived framed classic images taken during filming by Bill Wittliff\, renowned photographer\, writer\, and executive producer (with Suzanne De Passe) of Lonesome Dove. The images\, however\, are worlds apart from ordinary production stills\, depicting an extraordinary union of art\, literature\, and history. \nThe exhibition will be available to the public from Tuesday April 28 to Saturday July 11\, 2026. For more information about viewing hours or to arrange group visits\, contact CTHM Education Coordinators at 361-277-2866 or email info@chisholmtrailmuseum.org. \nHumanities Texas develops and supports diverse programs across the state\, including lectures\, oral history projects\, teacher institutes\, museum exhibitions and documentary films. For more information\, please visit Humanities Texas online at https://www.humanitiestexas.org or call 512.440.1991. \nVisit our Events Calendar for related Lonesome Dove programs. \n  \n[/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”20196\,20197\,20195″ img_size=”medium” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
