CTHM Receives Coveted Preservation Funding

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum was honored by the Texas Historical Foundation in Dallas when it received the prestigious Michael C. Duda Preservation Award for excellence in historic architectural preservation. Following a rigorous selection process that considered dozens of nominees from across the state, four groups were chosen for recognition. The 2024 Texas Historical Foundation Micheal C. Duda Preservation Award ceremony was held April 20, 2024 in Dallas, TX at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. It was an inspiring and exciting event attended by renowned preservationists from across the state, including representatives from Preservation Texas, the Texas Historical Commission and of course, the Texas Historical Foundation.

The four chosen organizations that were honored, while diverse in geography and purpose, are aligned in an uncompromising dedication to serve our communities by preserving spaces that connect us to our shared past. We all exemplify the transformative qualities that architectural preservation offers – the fellowship and pride inherent in experiencing our collective heritage as Texans.

The Award also included monetary prizes, and the CTHM most gratefully and humbly received the $20,000 cash prize towards the completion of Phase 1 and 2 of the CTHM expansion featuring the Trautwein and Cook & Day buildings located on N. Esplanade in Cuero.  CTHM is proud that our community efforts and goals are being notably recognized.  Later this summer, CTHM is partnering with the City of Cuero to improve the sidewalks, lighting, landscaping and building facades of the historic (c. 1894) Trautwein and (c. 1921) Cook & Day Motor Company buildings.

By early fall, the 200 block of N. Esplanade will have recognizable facade improvements, which will demonstrate CTHM’s continued commitment to top notch architectural preservation.
