25 Jun El Gallo Comes Home to Roost at the English-German School
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum installed a recent public art piece just in front of the English-German School. Titled, El Gallo, (The Rooster) the piece was created by beloved Austin artist Bob Wade. El Gallo was Wade’s last public art creation before his death in December 2019.
Purchase and installation was made possible by the Dorothea L. Leonhardt Foundation in Bellerose, New York. The Foundation has placed works with nationally known museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, Nasher Sculpture Garden (Dallas), Modern Museum of Art (NYC), Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (North Adams, MA.), and National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame (Ft. Worth)
CTHM envisions several pieces of public art to be added to its campus over the next several years. Wade had a devoted following in the world of pop art, linked with “Cosmic Cowboy” Austin counterculture, and his El Gallo will draw fans of his work to Cuero–highlighting CTHM efforts to expand cultural and educational opportunities in the community, including an awareness of public art.
